Nigeria @64: Hon. Bankole Calls for a Truly Inclusive Society

By Lanre Oloyede

National Leader for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), in the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Hon. Tolu Bankole has called for a more inclusive society that fully integrates and supports the diverse needs of its citizens.

This was contained in a statement issued to mark Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary.

Bankole congratulated Nigerians and emphasized the importance of ensuring that every citizen, regardless of ability, is part of the nation’s development journey.

Reflecting on the current economic challenges, Hon. Bankole acknowledged the hardships Nigerians are facing, particularly the rising inflation and cost of living. He expressed concern for PWDs, who often bear the brunt of these difficulties, but urged Nigerians to stay hopeful. He pointed to ongoing reforms as necessary steps toward economic stability and a brighter future for all.

“The challenges we face today are temporary,” he noted. “With determination and unity, we will emerge stronger with an economy that works for everyone.”

Bankole praised the progress made over the years in recognizing and protecting the rights of PWDs, citing the 2019 Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act as a turning point. He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC-led government for their commitment to inclusivity.

“President Tinubu’s administration has expanded social intervention programs, improved access to education, healthcare, and skills acquisition for PWDs,” Bankole said, noting that these efforts are a testament to the government’s dedication to ensuring no Nigerian is left behind.

He called on all levels of government to embrace full inclusion, emphasizing the need for policies that allow PWDs to participate fully in economic, political, educational, and healthcare sectors.

“Our future depends on ensuring that every Nigerian, irrespective of ability, is part of our national development,” he stated.

As Nigeria celebrates this historic day, Hon. Bankole urged citizens to remember that true strength lies in unity and inclusivity. He called for a future where inclusivity is more than just policy, but a way of life.

“Let us work together to make Nigeria a truly inclusive society,” he concluded.
