… Seeks partnership with NIMC to create Nigeria Persons with Disability Database (NPWDD)

Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon Mohammed Abba Isa, has called for disaggregation of database of Persons With Disabilities in Nigeria.
Hon. Abba Isa stated this today Thursday at the Stakeholders Workshop to Review and Validate the draft policy on Disability Inclusion aimed at creating an inclusive ID system organized by ID4D Project and NIMC Held at Rockview Royale Hotel.
According to the Senior Presidential aide, this would enable proper identification and situation of the different challenges peculiar to different disability clusters.
The SSAP, noted that it was practically impossible to plan and empower PWDs without accurate database, announced the launch of the proposed Nigeria Persons with Disability Database (NPWDD) which is being spearheaded by his office.
According to the presidential aide, the NPWDD is one of the cornerstone initiatives under the Beyond Disability Project, which his office has championed.
He stressed that this project aligns perfectly with the goals of the ID4D initiative, as it will provide accurate and up-to-date information about PWDs, ensuring they receive the necessary support and services.
To actualize this project, the office of the SSA on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities has proposed a partnership and collaboration with NIMC to achieve greater impact with the Nigeria Persons with Disability Database (NPWDD).
According to him, the integration of this comprehensive database into NIMC’s operations will facilitate better planning, policy-making, and implementation of programs tailored to the needs of PWDs. It will also enhance the ability to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of these programs, while “ensuring that we continually improve and adapt our strategies to better serve our community.”
To properly drive home the idea behind the NPWDD, the national coordinator of the Beyond Disability Project, Mr.steve Rodstick performed a brief electronic presentation of the NPWDD to the admiration of participants and stakeholders present.
Recall that the Beyond Disability Project, which shall be launched by Mr President on July 22 at the Presidential Banquet Hall Aso Villa, aims to empower over 5000 Persons With Disabilities through talent and skill development. This project will provide training, mentorship, and resources for persons with disabilities to unlock their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society.
The SSAP commended the Nigeria Digital Identification for Development (ID4D) Project, and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) for this crucial initiative and for their unwavering dedication to advancing the rights and opportunities of persons with disabilities in Nigeria.
He further reiterated that the Nigerian government under the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to disability inclusion in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, and looks forward to continued collaboration with relevant partners to achieve this goal.
