AAP, Nigeria Deploys Trained Accessibility Assessors for Field Practical Experience

By Lanre Oloyede

In a bid to advance professional standards in accessibility auditing, the Association of Accessibility Professionals (AAP), Nigeria, has taken its trained accessibility assessors to the field for hands-on practical experience.

This initiative is aimed at equipping assessors with the technical expertise required to deliver professional accessibility audits in line with international standards.

The field exercise, led by the Board Chairman and General Coordinator of AAP Nigeria, Barr. Yusuf Iyodo, marks a significant step in bridging the gap between theoretical training and practical implementation.

Participants were exposed to real-world scenarios, enabling them to apply international accessibility standards and codes effectively.

Speaking on the exercise, the General Coordinator, Barr. Iyodo emphasized its importance in ensuring that accessibility assessors are not only skilled but also well-versed in global best practices.

“This fieldwork is essential to familiarize our assessors with the practical aspects of accessibility auditing. It’s a continuous process that will ensure Nigeria remains at the forefront of accessibility advocacy,” the coordinator stated.

AAP Nigeria also announced its openness to partnerships and consultancy services, offering training programs to organizations interested in equipping their staff or officers with skills in accessibility auditing.

These programs are designed to enhance organizational capacity in ensuring inclusive environments for people with disabilities and other accessibility needs.

The association reiterated its commitment to fostering a more inclusive society by promoting accessibility across public and private spaces. This hands-on training initiative is expected to play a pivotal role in achieving that vision.
