The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Super Falcons of Nigeria for clinching their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in a dramatic comeback win against hosts Morocco.
In a statement issued by his Director Media and Communications, Mr Lanre Oloyede, after the thrilling final held at the Stade Olympique in Rabat, Hon. Abba Isa hailed the team’s remarkable resilience, describing their performance as “a symbol of courage, unity, and unyielding national pride.”
The Falcons overturned a 2-0 first-half deficit to defeat the Moroccan Atlas Lionesses 3-2 in a stunning second-half revival that showcased their experience and fighting spirit.
Hon. Abba Isa said: “The Super Falcons have once again demonstrated why they are the undisputed queens of African football.
“Their experience, depth, and never-say-die attitude propelled them to victory, and Nigerians everywhere are proud of their extraordinary achievement.”
He commended the entire coaching crew and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for their dedication and strategic planning in preparing the team for the tournament, saying the victory was a well-earned reward for their hard work.
Abba Isa particularly emphasized the inspirational value of the win for the over 35.1 million Nigerians living with disabilities.
He noted that the Falcons’ comeback serves as a powerful life lesson: “Even when you are down in the first half of life, if you refuse to give up, you can still rally back to win in the second half. Their resilience offers a profound message of hope to every Nigerian, especially those with special needs.”
He praised the players’ patriotism and passion for representing the country with pride, describing their commitment as an undying source of inspiration to the younger generation.
Nigeria’s victory was sealed by goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and a late decider by Joe Echegini, stunning a vibrant Moroccan crowd and dashing the hosts’ hopes of a first continental crown.
The win cements the Super Falcons’ legacy as Africa’s most successful women’s national football team, having now won 10 out of 13 editions of the tournament.
With this historic triumph, the Super Falcons have not only brought glory to the nation but have also ignited the hopes and dreams of millions across the country, proving once again that the Nigerian spirit is one of resilience, unity, and victory against all odds.
