Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, and BraveHearts Foundation have signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to launch a groundbreaking skills acquisition program targeting over 500 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).
The MOU was signed on Wednesday November 27, 2024 at a brief ceremony in the office of the SSA in Abuja.
The initiative, aptly named The Street Skills Pickup (Skill Orientation Program), is designed to empower individuals with disabilities through tailored skills acquisition and vocational training. The program will provide participants with expertise in areas such as content creation, event management, computer literacy, and branding, among others. By offering workshops, hands-on activities, and tailored support, the initiative seeks to foster inclusivity and equip PWDs with the tools to thrive both personally and professionally.
A Collaborative Vision

BraveHearts Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting wounded soldiers, women, children, and PWDs, is leading the initiative alongside the SSA’s office. The partnership underscores a shared commitment to creating pathways for economic independence and social inclusion for PWDs.
The MOU outlines the collaborative roles of both parties:
The SSAP’s Office will facilitate policy support and mobilize resources to ensure the program aligns with the administration’s mandate of inclusion and equal opportunities for PWDs.
– BraveHearts Foundation will design and deliver specialized training programs, provide qualified trainers, and ensure the training reflects current market demands and opportunities.

Milestone Achievement
At the signing ceremony held in his office, Hon. Abba Isa lauded the partnership as a pivotal step in fulfilling President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of creating avenues for PWDs to thrive.
“This initiative is a testament to our commitment to empowering Persons With Disabilities in Nigeria. By equipping them with critical skills, we are not only fostering economic independence but also ensuring their inclusion in the country’s development process,” Abba Isa stated.
He reiterated his office’s readiness to support similar initiatives that promote inclusivity and empowerment.
A Phased Approach

According to Mr. Okey Elias, CEO of BraveHearts Foundation, the program will be implemented in two phases, starting with 500 PWDs in Abuja before extending to other states. He emphasized that the program would be tailored to market demands, ensuring that beneficiaries gain practical skills to secure meaningful employment.
“We are committed to making this program impactful. With the right training and facilitators, we will empower participants to seize new opportunities and redefine their future,” Elias said.
A Passionate Visionary

Mrs. Peace Adetoro, a principal partner with BraveHearts Foundation based in the United Kingdom, expressed confidence in the program’s potential to transform lives.
“This initiative stems from a passion to see PWDs in Nigeria gain economic independence and self-reliance. We are providing not just training but also the technical support needed to ensure its success,” Adetoro remarked.
A Promising Future

The *Street Skills Pickup* program is poised to become a model for empowering PWDs in Nigeria, blending inclusivity with skill development to address economic and social challenges. With over 500 beneficiaries in the first phase, the initiative promises to leave a lasting impact, paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable society.
The partnership between the SSAP and BraveHearts Foundation signals a renewed commitment to addressing the unique challenges faced by PWDs in Nigeria while showcasing the immense potential they bring to the country’s development.
