Why Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa Stands Out As One of The Best SSAs to The President: A Proof of Ability in Disability

By Bashir Mohammed Ranccas Gashua

I have taken time to study many appointees of President Tinibu some of which I personally have close relationship with and always wishing them the best including those that no longer associate themselves with me simply because they are in position. Alhamdulillah, anyone that knows me can testify to the fact that I’m not a liability to anyone that comes my way rather i even think of adding value to a system with little or no credit to me so long as we will progress and our community wil prosper.

In an era where inclusion is no longer a favor but a fundamental right, one of us Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, stands tall as a beacon of transformative leadership and authentic representation of PWDs. As the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR on People with Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Abba Isa has redefined what it means to lead with purpose, passion, and personal experience.

With the unveiling of the 2024 State of Disability Inclusion Report, he demonstrated not only his policy acumen but his deep, lived understanding of the challenges and aspirations of millions of Nigerians with disabilities. He boldly declared that disability inclusion is not charity—it is a governance issue, anchored in justice, equity, and human rights, fully aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President.

Under his leadership, Nigeria is now a continental trailblazer in disability rights—especially with the ratification of the African Disability Protocol (ADP) in October 2023. He has turned words into action, ensuring that the protocol is not just a signature on paper but a living instrument to be domesticated, implemented, and monitored for real change. Kudos Bro.

“Your forward-looking strategy, which includes enforcement of the National Disability Act, creation of observatories, inclusive communications, national steering committees, and stakeholder participation, paints a bold roadmap for a Nigeria where no one is left behind” is indeed a national thinking asset.

What makes his leadership even more powerful is the inspiring paradox of his journey—a man living with a disability proving daily that there is immense ability in disability. He is not just a representative of people with special needs; he is their voice, their vision, and their vindication that the system can work if the right people are in charge. In him, dignity meets competence. Advocacy meets results. Inclusion meets execution.

We, as advocates of Health, Education, and Equal Opportunities for Persons with special needs proudly stand beside Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa. We recognize his strength, his results, and his unwavering commitment. And we declare our readiness to partner and give him our maximum support at every level to build a truly inclusive Nigeria where there will be no room for disability but ability in disability. Together, we believe in a future where disability is not a barrier but a badge of resilience, where leadership is measured not by status but by service, and where every Nigerian—regardless of ability—is given the space to thrive, contribute, and lead. Keep making us proud Mohammed Abba Isa
